vivo V5 Plus becomes official with dual front camera, Snapdragon 625

A couple of days ago we saw the then-unannounced vivo V5 Plus going up for pre-order prematurely in Malaysia, and today the new smartphone has been officially unveiled. The V5 Plus comes with many upgrades compared to the V5 from 2016, but what vivo seems to be most proud of is the dual front camera arrangement, with 20 MP + 8 MP resolution and “selfie softlight” flash.

The 20 MP snapper in there uses Sony’s IMX376 1/2.78″ sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 5P lens system, while the 8 MP f/2.0 camera captures depth information. This will make bokeh effects easily attainable, keeping faces sharp while blurring the background. Yes, just like what Portrait Mode does on the iPhone 7 Plus – but remember, this is the front-facing camera setup we’re talking about here. You can also refocus shots even after they’re captured, adding blurring effects wherever you want.

The rear camera is a 16 MP single unit with a LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and 4K video recording. The vivo v5 Plus has a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 on top, and it’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 SoC aided by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. A 3,160 mAh battery should ensure decent longevity, while the software is Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A fingerprint sensor is on the front. The V5 Plus comes with a custom-made AK4376 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip which provides a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 115dB.

The handset’s dimensions are 152.58 x 74 x 7.26 mm, and it weighs 158.6g. The only color option that will be available is gold, pictured above. The V5 Plus has an all-metal construction with redesigned antenna lines a la the latest iPhones.

Thanks for the tip, Georgy!
