15 Jan, Kathmandu: Acting Prime Minister, Bhimalendra Nidhi, said the government would ramp up the post-quake reconstruction.
Speaking at a commemorative event held on the occasion of 19th Earthquake Memorial Day by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), acting PM Nidhi said that a new Chief Executive Officer has been appointed at the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) to speed up reconstruction.
Nidhi, who is the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, pledged to turnaround the situation to help bring the quake-stricken back to the condition before the quake struck.
He also noted the need for awareness programmes to save people from the earthquake.
At the programme, Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Hit Raj Pandey, said the 2015 earthquake inflicted tremendous human and physical losses and stressed on need to comply with the building code when constructing residences.
He said the government has enforced the building code in all levels and that it would punish those violating the code.
KMC Acting CEO, Sanat Kumar Thapa, said the private houses along with government buildings were brought within the periphery of the building code.
The 19th Earthquake Memorial Day is being marked across the country under the banner, ‘Base for quake victims’ security, house and infrastructure which can withstand earthquake’.
The government has been marking the Day in the memory of the great earthquake which struck in 1934. RSS
